Poly­nomics study finds that the fi­nan­cial sec­tor con­tin­ues make ma­jor con­tri­bu­tions to the Swiss econ­o­my de­spite var­i­ous challees.

The SIA is the um­brel­la or­gan­i­sa­tion of the pri­vate in­sur­ance in­dus­try with 80 mem­bers that gen­er­ate 90 per cent of the Swiss pre­mi­um vol­ume.

De­spite the chal­leng­ing en­vi­ron­ment, the fi­nan­cial sec­tor con­tin­ues to make a large di­rect and in­di­rect eco­nom­ic im­pact on the Swiss econ­o­my.

Switzer­land counts 205 non-life, life and re-in­sur­ers with some 50,000 em­ploy­ees.

«The re­sults of the study are very il­lu­mi­nat­ing for the in­sur­ance in­dus­try. The study pro­vides in­for­ma­tion on the cur­rent state and the past de­vel­op­ment of the in­sur­ance in­dus­try in Switzer­land as well as on its fu­ture prospects,» says Urs Berg­er, Chair­man of the SIA.

The Swiss pri­vate in­sur­ance in­dus­try can look back on a suc­cess­ful year in 2013: de­spite chal­leng­ing frame­work con­di­tions and per­sis­tent­ly low in­ter­est rates, the in­sur­ance sec­tor con­tin­ues to grow and has pro­duced an­oth­er grat­i­fy­ing per­for­mance.
