Over 800 new jobs with private insurers

Last year, Swiss private insurers created over 800 new jobs in our country. This is what a survey conducted by the SIA of 134 insurance companies licensed with the Federal Office for Private Insurance (BPV) has revealed.

Zurich, 29.3.1999 – At the beginning of the year, Swiss private insurance companies employed a total of 48,937. That is 1.7 percent or 827 (762 full-time and 65 part-time) more persons than at the same time last year. That means that private insurance continues to be an important and stable employer in the Swiss economy.

It is also good news that the decline in the number of apprenticeship posts has been stopped. The number of apprentices is again slightly up at 2143 (plus 0.3 percent) for the first time since 1992. The proportion of women in senior positions is also up, with women managers up from 15.2 to 15.8 percent and women directors from 5.1 to 5.5 percent.

There were 10,439 people active in the field, 286 more than in the previous year. The number of employees in the branches and subsidiaries of Swiss insurance companies abroad was, on 1 January of this year, 96,872. This is an increase of nearly 33 percent over the previous year, due in great part to the acquisition of various large companies.
