Flood damage – private insurers take stock
So far, Swiss private insurance companies have received about 4000 claims in respect of the floods of recent days. The total damage to buildings and inventory in the claims filed to date amounts to over CHF 100 million.
Zurich, 19.5.1999 – This does not include insured loss due to interrupted business activities and damage to vehicles covered by all-risk insurance. Private insurers expect the total damage to rise even further especially as it has not yet been possible to assess the extent of the damage in Bern and Thun.
The individual insurance companies have contacted their clients, have gained a first impression of the extent of the damage and have started to evaluate the damage as far as this is at all possible. The insured parties will be guaranteed expeditious settlement of their claims. The private insurance companies that make up the Swiss Natural Disaster Pool thank all those who offered their assistance for the speedy, efficient and committed way they launched and carried out evacuation and damage-reduction operations.
