December 1999 storm damage – the latest figures

The latest surveys conducted by the Swiss Insurance Association (SIA) indicate that the damage caused by the storms which swept over large parts of Switzerland on 26 and 27 December 1999 amounts to well over CHF 100 million.

Zurich, 20.1.2000 – On the whole the private insurance industry is proceeding from damage of CHF 195 million. CHF 68 million of this amount is attributable to buildings, CHF 67 million to contents (total of 10,100 claims) and CHF 60 million to motor vehicles (13,000 claims). Damage to watercraft and business interruption losses are not included in these figures.
